Task 1: Task Overview Table
Getting to Work
- Downoad and review the example
Task Overview Table to understand what you are being asked to
produce.
- Review the list of targeted skills (performance-based learning
objectives), the scenario, and the list of identified prerequisite
skills that you previously produced.
- Starting from your scenario, brainstorm a set of specific tasks
that it might encompass.
- When considering a task for inclusion, keep in mind whether you
expect the work to be done by a single student of by a team of students
and, thus, what the scope of work within the task should be.
- Enumerate the skills and knowledge that each task exercises.
- Enumerate the prerequisite skills required.
- Review your work to ensure that all targeted knowledge and skills
are covered and that no prerequisite skills are required by a task
other than those you previously identified or skills that will be taught
by other tasks in the scenario. Revise as necessary.
- Order the tasks appropriately in chronological
order, “skill-building” order,
or a combination of the two.
- Fill in the Task
Overview Template:
- Column 1 is the task number
- Column 2 contains a brief description of
the relevant portion of the scenario, enumeration of any inputs
to the student’s
task, and a brief description of the task itself.
- Column 3 enumerates the deliverables the student will produce.
- Column 4 lists the targeted skills (and knowledge) addressed
- Column 5 contains an estimated task duration
- Column 6 (optional) identifies the major topic(s) covered to
provide an at-a-glance index.
- Review the estimated durations to ensure that the course can be
completed in the time allotted (perhaps including some buffer time).
- Review the table for completeness and correctness.
