SRI Evaluations | Bay ITC Review Panel | Sofia Review Summary Report

SRI International

Did students increase in technical content knowledge? The results indicated that students did learn, with percentage learning gains ranging from 9 percentage points to 83 percentage points per item from precourse test to postcourse test.

SRI International is conducting an external evaluation of our project, Experiential Learning Model for Technician Education.

Experiential Learning Model for Technician Education Year 3 FINAL Evaluation Report NSF-ATE project DUE # 0302894 found that "the curriculum model proved to have a notable capacity for leveraging students’ relevant prior knowledge and focusing that knowledge in a sustained and enriched way on classroom learning activities—both hallmarks of a high-quality reform curriculum."

The Preliminary Report on Results of Course Effects on Student Learning and Attitudes, focuses on the first year of the project and identifies key features of the Scenario-based course for improvement and further analysis. The Executive Summary discusses the key features of the Scenario-based course, key recommendations for improvements, and the key points in the evaluation design.

Bay ITC

I consider myself lucky to have been asked to view this project - it has already had a profound affect on my view of our future curriculum, and provided a framework for discussions in my department, and with faculty in other disciplines.

The Bay Area Information Technology Consortium was asked to convene a panel of California Community College IT educators to review our Practicum in Enterprise Security Course. The panel, moderated by Rick Graziani of Cabrillo College, considered the effectiveness of the course and learning model in California Community College IT curriculum.

There was substantial interest from all instructors about the methodology of this course and agreement that the skills and methodology in this course would be useful to the students. Most instructors liked many of the components and will be incorporating it into existing classes, if they are not doing so already.

SOFIA Sharing of Free Intellectual Assets

This is fantastic! One of the best courses I've ever seen.

Complete integration of simulation and instruction. Absolutely wonderful.

Our Practicum in Enterprise Security Course was selected for the SOFIA Project's Course Gallery. The Sofia Review Summary Report: Practicum in Enterprise Security is the summary of reviews from the Sofia Project Editorial Board for the course. Reviewers were online educators from around California.

The Sofia project is an open content initiative with funding support from The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Submitted courses were reviewed for quality, depth, instructional design, completeness, and use of interactivity and multimedia prior to selection. Content was evaluated for quality, correctness, and adherence to high academic standards. Selected courses were incorporated into their open-source online archive of course materials.
