C-Bay Properties for network, enterprise security, and management students

Designed as part of a network security curriculum, these scenario-based tasks simulate challenges for information technology professionals. Students are new hires on the security team reporting to the Director of IT for C-Bay, an online real estate auction company.

Policy Critique, students review C-Bay's existing, flawed corporate security policy and make recommendations.

Network Outages.  Students analyze and suggest solutions to an onslaught of network outages at C-Bay, an online Real Estate Auction start up.

Network Monitoring. Students work on network monitoring procedures at C-Bay, an online Real Estate auction company.  They recommend intrusion detection software and configuration.

We're Been Hacked!  The security team at C-Bay analyze and respond to an increase in hacking and other security incidents at C-Bay.

Security Awareness.  Students work as the Help Desk at C-Bay, and develop an employee education program designed to improve network security.  This scenario-based task is about educating the user population.

Emergency Response.  Students analyze C-Bay’s threats and vunlnerabilities, as well as draft emergency response procedures.

The material has been reorganized from a De Anza College Practicum in Enterprise Security class. Instructors may use all or selected tasks within their course. Students are encouraged to explore the Orientation section to better prepare for success in the course.

The Instructor Guide supports faculty in the successful implementation of a scenario-based task. Additional support is provided by the Community of Practice in Scenario-Based Learning hosted at www.tappedin.org.   To join, please email Jane Ostrander.  Include your institution, contact information and subjects taught.
