GreenHealth for Environmental Studies StudentsAir Water and Food. Students are new hires at GreenHealth, an environmental activist organization. Through community-based assignments, they research air quality, water quality and the impact of food choices on the environment – and pass on their work to senior media specialists. Finally, they make recommendations for GreenHealth’s next advocacy campaign. Sustainability. The research teams at GreenHealth gather information on sustainable world views and sustainable solutions in order to make a pitch for an educational documentary. The Instructor Guide supports faculty in the successful implementation of a scenario-based task. Additional support is provided by the Community of Practice in Scenario-Based Learning hosted at www.tappedin.org. To join, please email Jane Ostrander. Include your institution, contact information and subjects taught. Assessing Environmental Studies StudentsThrough the Air Water and Food and Sustainabilty tasks, students are expected to develop their professional skills of research, analysis and presentation. These skills are assessed as students use concept maps to organize their research, make presentations, and reflect on their experiences observing real-world environmental professionals at work. Test items ask students to use a concept map to organize their interpretation of an environmental text, brainstorm ways that environmental science findings can influence government or personal behavior, and develop a persuasive presentation recommending policy action. >> download the Instructors Guide (.doc)
