Teach a Scenario-Based TaskThe Experiential Learning Center is compiling a library of scenarios that have been developed and tested at colleges all over the country. If there is one that addresses your curriculum needs, we encourage you to implement it as-is or adapt it to your teaching style. Create an online course site for your class and just link to the scenario’s website. See Setting up your course site for suggestions on how to blend your existing course site with our scenarios. Expect facilitating a scenario-based task to be different from teaching in a traditional lecture-based classroom. Our online teachers' forum will help you make decisions about implementation and teaching (e.g. "Should I divide the students into teams?") Please contact Jane Ostrander for access. Here are some resources to help you mentor students through scenario-based tasks:
Each scenario includes an Orientation tab. It is extremely important that your students work through the orientation. Working with tasks and in teams will be a new experience, even if they have worked in teams before. As the students progress through the tasks, bring them back to revisit the orientation. What is important to them at the beginning of a task will be different than what they want to know once they are into the process. |
