1.0: Research Reports & Presentation -- Overview

Memorandum

To: Environmental Activist Team
From: Project Manager
Subject: Community Based Assignments

I want to build on the Director’s welcome and introduction to your first important work here.   The research and analysis you complete in the first task regarding use and exploitation of the earth’s natural resources will contribute to our later media campaigns to help others see the relationship between resource degradation and the impact on society.  We want the public to be able to make informed decisions about environmental issues that affect their lives.

We need to develop a bank of research and resources that we will be able to draw upon for information campaigns. To achieve that objective, you will work in teams to  research and report on three topics: 1) Air Quality, 2) Water Quality, and 3) Food & Environmental Health. Your team will choose one of those topics and create and deliver an oral presentation advocating for that topic instead of a written report. Your team will also prepare written reports on each of the other two topics.

You’ll need to be out there in the community – familiarize yourself with the agencies, people and projects that will be a resource to you in investigating issues.   Remember the research you do for these early assignments on regional and local issues related to air, water and food will come in handy for GreenHealth’s future activism.

So get started by reading through the Air Quality, Water Quality, and Food & Environmental Health sections in Tasks & Assignments to familiarize yourself with the topics and requirements. Let me know which topic your team selects for your oral presentation. It's important that we have a balance of presentations, so I may need you to go with your second or third choice. Remember, you will be completing written reports on the other two topics, so you will still get the opportunity to research all three topics.

I’ve been wanting to get to this research, but I haven’t had time.  I’m really glad to have your help!
