Office of the Vice President

|| VP Operations
I’m pleased to welcome the new members of the Robotics
Technology group at Innovo Engineering. Early in this project,
you will be working closely with the Civil, Architectural and
Mechanical engineering groups to inform your later work.
As engineering interns for Innovo, you will be involved in designing
and building robots for custom applications. As you know we currently
have a contract with a national rescue squad to design and build
robots that can:
- navigate through rubble to locate people who may be trapped
in the buildings
- determine the status of the victims, and
- help lift or move pieces of rubble OR deliver small needed
items until the rescue workers arrive.
In order for you to be credible contributors to this project,
your project manager has arranged for you to work with the structural
folks on structural collapse problems that will provide background
you need. Your internship assignment is to learn from engineering
experts what concepts and skills are needed to design, build,
test, and demonstrate the performance of a robot that the rescue
squad can use. Innovo has partnered with Carnegie-Mellon
University’s robotics institute to use the Telepresence
Robotics Kit (TeRK) as a starting model.
